Nude Beach

First things first, You have to love the name of this beer. It's really fun to talk about out of context, and I'm sure this post popping up in your news feed, RSS, etc. caught your eye. Today's beer comes to us from Stevens Point Brewery. This isn't the first Point beer we've seen, but it's likely more noticeable and well-known than our previous.

Nude Beach pours a light golden color and has a crisp, light, Summer-y wheat taste. This particular pour seemed rather heady, though I don't know if that's characteristic of the beer. Given the relative success of wheat beers on this blog, I've gotten used to being really excited about their prospects as pancakes. Let's see how Nude Beach stands up.

Prep/Cooking

While I wasn't crazy about the beer itself, the batter more-than made up for it. It was a little thick at first, which might be my fault as I'm working with new equipment, or it might be whatever's causing the beer to be so heady (it literally left residue on the glass), but the batter itself was delicious. Sweet, crisp. I could've been happy just eating the batter. We honestly could've stopped here. Maybe we should've...

Results

This review isn't exactly fair. As far as most beer pancakes go, these are delicious. They were delightfully flavorful without being overbearing, and you get flavors in pancakes that you don't in the beer. However, as previously mentioned, wheat beers are on a bit of a pedestal on this blog. That being said, this was kind of a disappointment. The batter was so good and it went downhill from there. Still pretty great, but a disappointment.

The Decision

• Pancakes: Yes. Even if the pancakes were a disappointment, they're still really good pancakes.
• Syrup: No. I've never had this happen before. Usually syrup will do nothing or it will overpower the flavor. In this case, it just made them taste like regular pancakes (which, at this point, I can't imagine why anyone would want to eat, but hey, to each their own).
